Venango County Map 1903

ALLEHENY TOWNSHIP - Pop. 405

In 1800 Allegheny Township included all areas east of Oil Creek (the creek, not the twp.) and north of the Allegheny river. By 1827 the nominal townships of East Branch, Windrock and Tionesta had been formed from the original area of Allegheny Twp. The area was divided again and 1833 saw the formation of Cornplanter Township.
In 1850 President Township was formed and in 1866 Oil Creek Township was formed (the town of Pleasantville was within the early boundaries of Allegheny Twp.). On an 1865 map the townships of Hickory, Kingsley and Tionesta are shown as being in Venango Co. on the eastern border of Allegheny Twp. These areas were later annexed to Forest Co.
