COOPERSTOWN Cyrus Dickson "Dick" and Nora A. Bower

Located on South Main Street, this was the home of Cyrus Dickson "Dick" and Nora A. Bower. The following is taken from the 1776 – 1976 Cooperstown Area Booklet: “Mr. Dick Bower was a blacksmith and his shop fit the description of the one in The Village Blacksmith by Longfellow. I don’t believe that he enjoyed being watched, but we boys used to watch him shoe horses, set iron rims on buggy or wagon wheels and make runners for bob sleds. His rival in the business was Lew Ray and they could see each others shops and they were very zealous in their efforts to each retain their patrons.” Mr. Bower died in 1931 at age 66 and Mrs. Bower died in 1940 at age 69. They are buried in the Cooperstown Cemetery.
