UTICA STORE LEDGERS

Below are abstracts taken from early Utica store and smith shop ledgers, 1832 – 1850. The ledgers are from different enterprises run by A.W. Raymond and others are part of the McClelland / Raymond collection in the Venango County Historical Society archives. These were compiled by Dennis Armstrong for the newsletter in 1988. The Raymonds were new in the area and in order to locate those who charged or bought goods at the stores notations were made as to the location of a person’s residence and/or the relationship of the individual with others who were known to the store operators. This gives today’s reader a rare insight at some of the information about the people living in the area at that period.
