* S.S. NEVADA 1872*

photo purchased by Sheila from Paul Petersen
It took 3 pages to get all of the passengers in the table and onto the internet. I got this list from the LDS center after discovering my Greatgrandparents John and Elizabeth West and their 2 year old son Thomas West sailed to the USA from Tubbercurry Sligo Ireland on the SS Nevada. My Great Aunt Elizabeth Susan Nevada West was born on the ship during the voyage. Janice Cox Brown volunteered to transcribed the list. The list was hand written in the old handwriting. It was very difficult to read. You will find her notes below. You can use the find option on your browser to look for a name. Be sure to read all three pages of passengers. Sheila Barr Helser

NOTES From Janice
I believe the superscript numbers to represent the children of a family
Ex: Mary Jones 5 32 2-3
5 children in Mary's family: 2 boys; 3 girls
I didn't have all the information on who was in steerage.
On the last page I suspect that the last few men were not in Steerage.
I assume the + meant a death. I thought there were three.
I used two references for the deciphering of the writing:
1. Deciphering Old Handwriting
2. Understanding Cologian Handwriting by Hariet Stryker-Rodda, Genealogical Publishing Co., Inc.
