20. Samuel Fetteroff House

This charming home is located at 1117 Chestnut Street. At one time Chestnut Street was named Back Street. A man from Utica, PA built this house in 1874 from barn boards and with square nails that can be seen in the cellar way of the house. The downstairs living room, dining room, kitchen and laundry room is reached by a side porch into the dining room. There is a floor to ceiling china cupboard and a walk in coat closet in the dining room. From the kitchen you can go to the sunroom that features a floor made of slabs of flagstone dug from the hills behind the house. The second floor has two bedrooms with walk in closets, a bath and a small shelf-lined library. The front and back approach to the stairway has always been a play area for children. The basement features a fruit cellar with native stone walls. Tall living room windows show an evergreen tree, forsythia and a view of St. John’s Church, United Brethren Methodist Church, the Courthouse and glimpses of the spires of St. Patrick Church.
