Pine Hill Church of God

Pine Hill Church of God- organized in 1842 at the Pine Hill School during a series of meetingsheld by the Reverends Werts and Hickels.
The original congregation included:
  • Jacob Bolinger - First Elder
  • Mrs. Sarah Carner
  • Susan Thomas
  • Mary Glenn
  • Mary Stroup
  • Andrew Carner
  • Abram Flowers

Ministers include the following:
  • Rev. Woods
  • Rev. Richards
  • Rev. Myers
  • Rev. Logue
  • Rev. Kline
  • Rev. Gellantine
  • Rev. Bartlebaugh
  • Rev. Hovis
  • Rev. James
  • Rev. J.W. Davis

In 1859 a Church building was erected at the site of the Pine Hill Cemetery, acting as the building
committee were:
  • Peter Stroup
  • Adam Steffee
  • Eli Carner
Sometime later in the life of this church a new Church building was built just west of the Cemeteryand was used until the early 1970's. This building is now used as a private residence. (1997)


Rockland Cumberland Presbyterian Church

Rockland Cumberland Presbyterian Church, On May 4, 1856, John Shannon and his wife Jane, of Rockland Township sold one-fourth acre of land fot $1.00, to:
  • James Shannon
  • James H. Borland
  • Jonathan Lusher
for the Cumberland Presbyterian Church of Rockland. This piece of property already having a Meeting House on it , that was erected in 1842. During the period of it's exsistence, had the following pastors:
  • Rev. Hatton
  • Rev. Murphy
  • Rev. Law
  • Rev. Osborne
  • Rev. Moore
  • Rev. Gallagher
  • Rev. Bowman

The first elders were:
  • John Shannon
  • Abraham Witherup
  • John Shaw

The life of the Congregation was reletivley short, disbanding in 1880.
